Checking into your ward

Ward Orientation

When you arrive at your ward, you will be informed about the ward and services available in the hospital. You will also meet the ward hostess and secretary.

Please make sure that you let the nurse know of any medication you need to take during the day. Do not take any medication without letting your nurse know as this could interfere with your prescribed medicine.

Patient Facilities

UCTPAH is equipped with a television set at each bed with access to SABC and Mnet. Remote controls are available at reception. General wards have shared bathrooms for the patients in that ward.

Private rooms:

There is a limited number of private rooms available with en-suite bathrooms. It is important to know that most medical aid schemes do not cover the costs of staying in a private room. These additional costs will need to be agreed upon during your admission and settled on discharge.

Patients in private and semi-private wards may request telephones. Any calls will be charged to the patient’s account and must be settled on discharge from the hospital.

Room Service

UCT Private Academic Hospital subscribes to the highest level of cleanliness. The wards are cleaned and bed linen and towels are changed on a daily basis.

You can rest assured that management staff liaise with the ward managers on everything concerning cleaning, waste removal and linen changing to enhance our hospital’s cross-infection control programmes.

We take great care in providing our patients with freshly cooked meals based on sound nutritional principles. A team of dieticians and chefs create an a’ la carte menu for patients on a daily basis. Meals for paediatric patients such as purity and baby formula are also available.

All meals are prepared in the hospital’s kitchen; except for Kosher and Halaal meals which are provided by caterers. Should you have any specific dietary requirements, please let your ward manager know.

Counselling Services

UCTPAH offers a counselling service to patients. The consultants are professionals who have experience in assisting patients and their families to cope with the emotional effects of illness and/or hospitilisation. This promotes the holistic approach to treatment that we have adopted from both a medical and emotional prospective.

Please refer to our Visitors page regarding the use of telephones and cellphones, smoking areas, security at the hospital, as well as information for your friends and family on our visitor’s policy.
