Pandie Shaheen, Dr

Shaheen Pandie is a Specialist Interventional Cardiologist currently practicing at Netcare UCT Private Academic Hospital. In addition to general cardiac conditions, he specialises in the management of coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes, advanced coronary interventions, and structural heart interventions.

He currently serves as the Director of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory Services at University of Cape Town, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, at Groote Schuur Hospital. After completing undergraduate and post-graduate internal medicine and cardiology training at the University of Cape Town, he received the Edith-Sorrell Scholarship to complete sub-specialist interventional cardiology training at McMaster University, Hamilton Ontario, Canada.

His current academic interests include acute cardiac care (specifically acute coronary syndromes), pericardial disease, and structural heart interventions. In terms of complex cardiac interventions, he is a proctor and specialist operator in trans-radial percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), rotablation, and optical coherence tomography (OCT). He is also an active member of the UCT/GSH transcatheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI) team.

In addition, he holds a senior lecturer post at the University of Cape Town, and is actively involved in teaching and training of medical students, registrars, and physician specialists. He is also a recognised researcher with publications in prominent journals such as NEJM, Circulation and JACC. His current research projects include African-focused cardiac pathologies including pericardial syndromes (IMPI trial), acute coronary syndromes and HIV-related coronary spectrum of disease; and globally-relevant multi-centre studies including the COMPLETE and the ISCHAEMIA trials.

He also holds faculty positions on prominent national and international cardiology societies including the South African Heart Association (SAHA), South African Society of Cardiac Interventions (SASCI), AfricaPCR, Trans-Catheter Therapeutics (TCT) and EuorPCR.
