Bernon Marc, Dr

Dr Marc Bernon is Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeon. He is currently a consultant and senior lecturer in the UCT Hepato-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) surgical unit.

Dr Bernon completed his undergraduate training at the University of the Witwatersrand. After working at several hospitals in South Africa and the United Kingdom he completed his specialist general surgical training at the University of Cape Town in 2008. He was awarded the Swann-Morton award for the best surgical registrar in 2008 and received the Bremner award for the best candidate in the intermediate examinations of the college of surgeons.

After his specialist training he sub-specialised as a hepatobilairy and pancreatic surgeon being trained by Prof JEJ Krige and Prof P Bornman – both world-renowned Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeons.

During this time he became involved in the oldest Liver transplant program in Africa, at Groote Schuur and Red Cross Children’s Hospitals. He spent a short period at the Liver transplant Unit at the University of Nebraska Medical Centre. Dr Bernon has been involved in extending this program to include UCT Private Academic Hospital.

Dr Bernon is involved in research in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery at the University of Cape Town. He has undergraduate and postgraduate teaching commitments (teaching medical students, registrars and fellows).
